Why you should ditch the phone for your vows

“you didn’t come all this way to look at a screen. you came to feel it.”

Imagine this

You’re in the middle of nowhere. Green all around you, mountains rising behind you, wind moving through your hair.

You’re dressed up, fully in the moment… it feels like something out of a film.
And then…
Out comes the phone.

It breaks the magic

That little glow hits your face. You look down. And just like that, the moment changes.
I get it, phones are handy. Everything is on there. But during your vows, it pulls you out of the moment.
Instead of looking at each other, you’re looking at a screen. Instead of feeling it, you’re reading it.
From a photo point of view, it stands out straight away. Nature, soft light, raw emotion… and then a bright phone in the middle of it all.
It just doesn’t belong there.

It changes how it feels

When you read from your phone, your energy drops a bit.
It can feel like you’re checking messages rather than speaking from the heart.
And when you look back at your photos later, you’ll notice it. Not in a good way.

A simple fix that makes a big difference

Bring something physical instead.

a vow book, a small notebook, even a simple piece of paper

Something you can hold. Something that feels intentional.
It keeps you present, and it looks way better in photos.

A little extra idea

If you’re worried about forgetting your words, here’s a nice middle ground.
Write most of your vows down, but leave the last line or two open.

Then in the moment, just say those final words to each other naturally.
Pause, look at each other, take it in. That’s usually where the magic happens.

As your photographer, I’ll be right there capturing it, and those few unscripted seconds often end up being the most powerful photos of the day.

You’ll thank yourself later

When you’re looking back at your photos, you want to feel that moment again.
You want to see connection.

eye contact. emotion.

Not a screen lighting up your face.

Final thought

You didn’t travel all this way to be on your phone.

you came for the experience, the feeling.the moment.

So when it comes to your vows…

no phones. no screens. just you two.
